On Monday, September 30th, the League of Women Voters of Chicago and Friends of Brennemann sponsored a non-partisan Chicago Public School (CPS) Board of Education Candidate Forum, held at our local CPS school, Brennemann Elementary School.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and a huge thank you to all six candidates who came out and answered questions from our neighbors. And of course, thank you to Brennemann Elementary School for hosting us! It was the first time many neighbors stepped inside our school and it was such a treat getting to show them around.

Many people are not aware that the CPS school board has always been appointed. The state legislature passed a law that the school board has to eventually be fully elected, and the transition to a fully-elected school board is beginning with our November 5th election when half the CPS School Board will be elected.
CPS divided the city into 10 districts for this election; we are in District 4. Our district has the highest number of candidates of any district, and one person from each district will win the election. Please make sure you VOTE on November 5th!

Chicago voters will begin electing members to the new Chicago Board of Education during the General Election on November 5, 2024. This is the first phase to a fully-elected board in the year 2027.
