Supporting Our Students

Brennemann Elementary is a pre-k through 8th grade Chicago Public School (CPS) in the Buena Park neighborhood of Uptown. It is a modern jewel in this National Historic District Neighborhood. Designed by Bertrand Goldberg and opened in 1963, the school serves 495 students with a staff of 90. The leadership team of Principal Dr. Patrina Singleton and AP Daniel Postlethwait started in 2021. The school has 3 cluster programs, supporting students with mild to moderate disabilities. Students in the cluster program participate in Special Olympics and Music & Visual Art Therapy. The student body is diverse with 27 languages spoken.

In addition to the normal funding problems that all CPS schools face Brennemann has some unique challenges, the biggest of which is that 90% of the students qualify for free or subsidized lunch.

In many neighborhood schools, parents come together to raise money and make up for the funding gap between what CPS provides and what the school really needs. But at Brennemann, our parents typically don’t have the extra time or money for this.

Friends of Brennemann (FOB) is a 501C-3 formed in2022 to support our neighborhood school. At FOB we have stepped up to support the school because where the parents don’t have the bandwidth the community does.

We believe that by making our local school stronger we make our community stronger.
